HomeWorks
Interactive Project Checklists
Design
Checklist
This checklist is intended to
provide reminders during the design stage of a project.
- Use the correct database
rules for the location that the residence is in
Select the appropriate voltage and breaker sizing
rules for your database. This is done in the File menu
from the floorplan view.
- Assign your loads to
Vareos and GRAFIK Eyes
Loads on the floorplan that are controlled by
HomeWorks Vareos or GRAFIK Eyes must get assigned to the
appropriate devices on the Control Station screen in the
software. Any loads you do not assign to Vareos or GRAFIK
Eyes will automatically be assigned to Remote Power
Module outputs when the Panel Wizard is run.
- GRAFIK Eye 3500 and GRAFIK
Eye IA units
Specify GRAFIK Eye 3500 or IA main units for
locations where individual GRAFIK Eye zone control is
necessary from a HomeWorks Interactive keypad. If your
GRAFIK Eye icon on the floorplan has a red 31
on it, you can convert it to a 3500 unit by clicking your
mouse pointer on it and pressing the F5 key.
- HWI keypads of versus GRX
accessory controls
There is a tradeoff to be made when deciding whether
or not to use GRX accessory keypads. A HomeWorks keypad
has much more flexibility in that it can select GRX
scenes as well as control any other HWI system element.
The GRX accessory can only control the GRXs, but has the
advantage of being fully functional in the event of a
processor failure.
- 4 D48s per configurable
link
Remember that a single D48 link on a processor can
communicate with up to 4 D48 boards; each does not
require a separate configurable link.
- Custom faceplates for non-system
devices
Any non-system device that will be ganged with a
system device needs to be included on the floorplan so
you can get the right faceplate.
- Up to 300 LEDs per
processor
Add an HWI-PS power supply to boost link power if you
have more than 300 LEDs on a single processor. The HWI-PS
can be added on the Panel Assignment screen. Remember to
specify that an electrical feed will need to be pulled to
the HWI-PS.
- Manual Override Switches
Specify that manual override switches (provided with
each HomeWorks Interactive processor) be installed in one
or more homeowner accessible locations.
- HWI-ENC -LV17 with HWI-D48
If you specify a D48 mounted remotely in an LV17
enclosure, you must also specify that an electrical feed
be pulled to that enclosure.
- Modem phone line
If you plan to install a modem, specify that a dedicated
phone line or analog extension be installed at the
location where you plan to put the modem.
- Modem electrical outlet
If you plan to install a modem, specify that an
electrical outlet be installed within 6 feet of the
location where you plan to put the modem.
- Null modem cable
If you plan to install a modem, order the Lutron
specified Black Box null modem cable for connection
between the modem and the processor. Black Box Part
Number CBPS104615. Black Box's phone number is 1-724-746-5500.
- HWI-TEL9 phone line
If you plan to install an HWI-TEL9, specify that a
phone line or analog extension be installed at the
location where you plan to mount the HWI-TEL9. If you are
unfamiliar with the installation of the HWI-TEL-9 (it is
different from the old HW-TEL9), be sure to read the
installation instructions that are on the HWI website to
determine which configuration you are going to use it in.
- HWI-TEL9 electrical outlet
If you plan to install an HWI-TEL9, specify that an
electrical outlet be installed within 6 feet of the HWI-TEL9
for the wall transformer to plug into.
- HWV-1000NS requires a
neutral in the box
An HWV-1000NS requires a neutral wire in the wallbox,
unlike the HWV-600D and HWV-1000D which do not.
- GRAFIK Eye requires a
neutral in the box
A GRAFIK Eye main unit requires a neutral in the
wallbox.
- Remember to specify pre-wiring
for parts of the home that will not initially be part of
the system
By pre-wiring to locations that are not originally
part of the system, you can easily upgrade a home by
installing Vareos. This helps to guarantee future
business when the homeowner realizes how convenient it
would be to have the entire home on the system.
- Remember CCIs and CCOs for
interfacing
Dont forget to include contact closure
interfaces for interfacing with security systems, garage
door openers, driveway sensors, etc. Also remember that
the CCI and CCO have Lutron IR inputs on them, allowing
control from a GRX-IT IR transmitter using an IR
repeating system.
