What
to bring to the job site
This checklist is intended to help
you fill your "toolbox" before leaving for a job site.
- The most recent HWI
software
- DB9 male to DB9 female
straight through serial cable
This is for direct uploads better bring two
just in case.
- Modem
Bring a US Robotics 33.6K or 56K Sportster modem and
Lutron processor to modem cable (Black Box Part Number
CBPS104615. Black Box's phone number is 1-724-746-5500).
Even if you do not plan to leave the modem on the job
site, it can help Lutron to diagnose problems by dialing
into the system. Dont forget about 50-100 feet of
phone wire to reach a phone jack if there isnt one
already installed for a modem.
- Laptop modem
If your laptop uses a PCMCIA modem, dont forget
it. This can be useful for doing in room programming
using two phone lines or extensions.
- Null Modem adapters
When integrating with other equipment via the RS-232 port,
a null modem adapter is often required for correct
communications.
- Extra HWI keypad
An extra keypad can be very useful when testing or
troubleshooting the system. The keypad can be set to an
unused address and test programming can be programmed to
it without effecting the system operation. It can be very
useful for setting state variables for testing
conditional programming. Dont forget a short piece
of 4-conductor wire.
- Digital Multimeter
This is very useful for testing RPM modules as well
as for finding communication link shorts.

Technical Reference Guide
This is your bible.
- DIN rail screwdriver
Hopefully you have a Lutron blue DIN rail screwdriver
that fits nicely into the RPM terminal blocks.
- RPM rotary address switch
screwdriver
The rotary address switch on the RPM requires a very
small flat head screwdriver.
- LT-1 link terminators
These came in the processor box, but if they werent
installed originally, you may need some. 120 ohm
resistors work if you don't have LT-1s.
- Spare processor terminal
blocks
- Standard analog telephone
handset
You will need a standard analog telephone handset to
program the voice prompts into an HWI-TEL9.
