seeTouch
™Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
When is the product going to be available for HomeWorks Interactive?
We plan to begin shipping this product at the beginning of 2001. Initially, only black plastic, white plastic, and custom metal finishes will be available. The remaining plastic finishes will be introduced during the second or third quarter of 2001.
What will this product cost?
The list price of a keypad with backlit engraving will be approximately $330. The IR version will have a list price of approximately $370.
The product has illuminated engraving on the buttons - does it consume more power than a regular keypad?
Yes - a seeTouch™ keypad consumes the same amount of power as a KP-15 (which counts as 15 LEDs in your LED calculation).
Is it true that I can change the number of buttons on the control after it is installed?
Yes. The button and faceplate assembly can be removed and replaced with an assembly with more or less buttons. The exception to this is the IR button kits - they can only be used with an IR-capable keypad.
When will the HWI software have this control in the toolbox?
The January, 2001 release will have seeTouch in it. Additional seeTouch editing and modification features will be added to the tool in May, 2001.
If I wanted to show someone a picture of it, is there a piece of literature that I could request?
Yes. It is Lutron part number 367-153. You can request a copy of this from customer service at 1-888-588-7661 (1-888-lutron1). It can be viewed here:
Is this product an "insert" (like a 5S-M) or a "no insert" (like a LB-6) keypad?
It will be available in "insert" models that use a decorator opening, as well as "no insert" models that have seamless faceplates. Multigang faceplates will not be available initially for the "no-insert" models. The "insert" versions will use our existing multigang faceplates. The "insert" versions are the ones to use if you have immediate needs for multigang configurations.
What else do I need to know about ganging this control?
HWI seeTouch™ keypads have a fins-broken profile. This means that 2 seeTouch™ keypads can gang together in a 2 gang box (similar to the 5S-NM, 5S-M, and 5S-IR keypads). This is different from the KP series of keypads, which cannot gang in a fins-broken configuration.
Is there an IR version of this keypad?
There will be a IR model available. The 6th button position from the top will be where the IR receiver will be located. The button with the IR window cannot have engraving, and therefore will not be backlit.
Does this keypad have raise/lower buttons?
The bottom button may be split into a raise and lower button. A split raise/lower button cannot be engraved and will not be backlit.
Where are the addressing dipswitches?
The seeTouch™ keypad dip switches are on the front of the keypad. They require removing the faceplate and button assembly to gain access.
Does the keypad have contact closure inputs on it?
All HWI seeTouch™ models will have 2 dry contact closure inputs on the back of the keypad that are independent from the front buttons.
Will Lutron be selling a demo version of this keypad?
Yes. We are targeting March, 2001 for the launch of the demo keypad. It will come with a transformer that will power the keypad so that you can demo the nighttime viewing of the keypad. It will be mounted on a stand.
